Hog Hunting Tournament
March 11th, 2010
I am going up to Ada Ok for a hog hunting tournament this weekend. I will be clocking out from Nocona EMS at 11:00 pm tomorrow night and driving straight up there then hunt Saturday and Sunday. The rules are fun there are 2 classes, meat hog class and trophy class. The winner of the meat hog class will be the person that harvests the hog closest to the weight selected by the ranch owner. It could be anywhere from 5 pounds to 150 pounds wont know the weight till I get there. The trophy class is simply the heaviest hog weighed in over 150 pounds. The morning hunts will be donewith the hunters weapon of choice but the evening hunts will be with a weapon drawn from a hat. A few of the possible weapons are a recurve bow, crossbow, shotgun with OO buckshot, 500 S&W, old compound bowand several others. I will try to do as live a hunt as I can.

Delaware fishing report 3/11/10
March 11th, 2010
OCEAN
Local boaters fishing the deeper wrecks off Delmarva have had mixed results, with good action one day and reports of slow fishing the next. Captain John Nedelka anchored over a productive piece of structure that provided a nice catch of tautog and cod for the anglers fishing aboard the Indian River charter boat Karen Sue. The most productive wrecks are those in the deeper water to the east of the 20-fathom line. Anglers targeting tog and cod are using green crabs, frozen fleas, Asian crabs, shrimp and fresh clams. Water temperatures along the coast have finally made it into the 40s, so it shouldn’t be long before surf fishermen start connecting with some early season action on doggies and skates. With water temperatures warming, it shouldn’t be long before jetty fishermen start connecting with a few striped bass in Indian River Inlet, according to Clark Evans at Old Inlet Bait and Tackle. "We just saw the first osprey of the season behind the shop," Evans said. "And that’s a sign, according to the oldtimers, that the stripers will start up within 10 to 14 days." When the rockfish do start feeding in the inlet, the top baits will be red and white bucktails dressed with plastic worms, and deep water flies in either pink or blue color patterns. The big winter head boats running out of the Jersey ports are reporting excellent fishing for cod, with some really big fish coming over the rails. Captain Howard Bogan had one of his best trips in years aboard the Jamaica last weekend, with a catch totaling more than 300 cod weighing up to 39 pounds. "The water temperature is right for a good migration of cod," Bogan said. "We haven’t had these conditions since the mid-1990s when we had our last good run of codfish." Anglers fishing the waters at the mouth of the Chesapeake reported increasing action on big stripers as water temperatures climbed above the 45-degree mark at the Bay Bridge Tunnel monitoring station. Catch reports from boaters fishing the warm water of the Gulf Stream off the Outer Banks showed excellent fishing for bluefin tuna averaging between 150 and 175 pounds, with fish up to 225 pounds reported by the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. DELAWARE BAY While water temperatures are still too cold for anything other than white perch action in the bay’s tributary rivers, the crew at Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle are optimistic that Delaware Bay striper and tog action is "right around the corner." Anglers fishing the tributaries are reporting action on some real nice perch, with a lot more fish going into the coolers now that the local tackle shops are stocked with bloodworms. Perch fishermen also are having success with live grass shrimp and small minnows. RIVERS Topping the reports from river fishermen is the return of striped bass to both the Delaware River and the Nanticoke River. John Massey passed along reports of rockfish up to 29 inches being caught in the Delaware River above the Twin Bridges by anglers baiting with bloodworms. The river is also providing anglers with white perch and increasing numbers of channel catfish. Catch reports from anglers stopping at Taylored Tackle showed good numbers of stripers working their way up the Nanticoke River. According to shop owner Jerry Taylor, the best location for keeper stripers, right now, is the stretch of the river between the Delaware-Maryland line and the mouth of Broad Creek. River anglers fishing the southwest corner of the state also are reporting hot fishing for a mix of panfish. Fishermen targeting white perch have had good luck at the mouth of the Marshyhope, at Hawks Nest and from shore at Phillips Landing. Crappie topped the reports from Broad Creek’s Bethel Hole, with slabs up to 1.25 pounds weighed in at Taylored Tackle. Broad Creek and the Nanticoke River also are providing fishermen with good numbers of yellow perch. While tidal waters dominated most river reports, fishermen also are enjoying some late winter trout action in the non-tidal waters of White Clay Creek and the Brandywine River. Fish the deeper holes downstream from gravel bars or rocky areas with night crawlers, wax worms or mealworms. Bass and crappie topped the pond reports from Captain Bones Bait and Tackle, with recommendations for Garrison Lake, Silver Lake in Dover and Trap Pond. Fishermen stopping at Shooter’s Supply reported a mix of crappie and pickerel at Smalley’s Dam, with minnows and shiners at the top of the bait list. With the ice finally gone from the midstate ponds, fishermen stopping at the Williamsville Country Store are reporting good fishing for a mix of crappie, yellow perch and largemouth bass. Shop owner George Pechin topped his pond report with recommendations for Abbotts Pond and Griffith Lake, with RatLTraps, jigs, plastic worms and shiners leading the list of productive baits. Crappie were the primary target for pond anglers checking in at Taylored Tackle, with excellent fishing reported from both Chipmans Pond and Trussum Pond. Trout fishermen are getting a jump on Delaware’s regular spring season, thanks to an early stocking of Newton Pond near Greenwood and Tidbury Pond near Dover. Each of the ponds was stocked last week with approximately 550 rainbow trout, with another stocking scheduled for the middle of the month. In addition to their regular fishing license, anglers fishing these two ponds are required to have a state Trout Stamp. Newton Pond also is stocked with bluegills and largemouth bass, but fishing is catch-and-release only for those two species, according to state Fisheries Administrator Craig Shirey. "The trout, however, are fair game and we encourage fishermen to keep them up to the limit of six," Shirey said. Mar 2010
Hang your venicon?
March 11th, 2010
Do you hang your venicon if so how long?
I like to hang my Venicon about two weeks if its cold enough. The last one I hung was up for over a month the temps went down to the single digits for a long time, we had 5 does we let them hang and they were tender way beyond any deer that I ever had. we use garbage bags to cover it.

Camera for self takes :)
March 11th, 2010
Hi guys i need to pick some brains omg
Due to my fishing buddies being a lot less committed than me I end up fishing a lot on my own… And often have to bug a few other anglers to take photos for me.. Which normally they are more often than not happy to oblige. But I would like to be able to self take myself if possible.. Also seen a good concept in one of the mags embarassed called a self take kit with a lead and you use your knee I think this would be a more comfortable way to do it. Any reccommendations. I don’t really have a price range obviously as cheap as possible but I want it to be a good quality and reliable. Cheers guys Mar 2010
