shoot with both eyes open, I remember reading a thread not to long ago on something like this. I have always shot with one eye closed but thier seems to be some benefit in having both eyes open especially in low light. What are your thoughts.

Ok, so I took a strange looking 5 point cull off of a ranch yesterday. The rancher and I were dressing the deer and he said he was curious as to the age of the deer. I figured we would take out the jawbone and go from there. OH NO!!
He said that you can age a deer by turning the head away from you and counting the wrinkles at the base of the ear. We did and counted 3. The body size and structure could certainly be that of a three year old. I must admit that I didn’t take out the jawbone to validate it when I took him to the processor but I am curious if anyone has heard of this technique. Anyone? Nov 2009

Knox weekend two
November 30th, 2009
With several hunters not showing up this weekend there were still some great bucks taken. As with anywhere else, being in the right place at the right time is the key to success. The right place is not at Hardee’s or the couch, if you want to take a big buck!!
I love seeing the youngins successful! And the big boys! The slideshow: http://joelacefield.com//slideshow.php?photo=852 Nov 2009

30-06, H414, 209gr A-Max
November 30th, 2009
Yesterday I was ladder testing the 208gr A-max with H414 starting at 44.8 and ending at 47.2grains. 3 shots in these had a noticeable double explosion; two distinctive bangs, it sounded almost like a flintlock.
The shots hit the target as I would have expected, maybe a little off but I had no 2 inch spread as I had thought was going to happen. I read about “hang-fires” from too little powder and was wondering if my problem was too little powder. The charges were medium loads. I was going to try larger charges, but thought it better to make a post before I loaded more cartridges. What say you?
